Is this you?

You were promoted because
you were brilliant. Now it feels
harder than anyone warned you.

You were promoted because you were brilliant. Nobody warned you that brilliance at doing is a completely different skill to brilliance at leading. Here is what many early managers recognise in themselves:

01
Running on empty
You are carrying more responsibility than feels manageable, and wondering when it stops feeling this hard. Exhaustion has become your baseline.
“I am doing everything I am supposed to — but I am running on empty.”
02
Saying yes to everything
Because saying no feels like failing, and the idea of letting someone down keeps you up at night. Your boundaries have disappeared — and you do not know how to get them back.
“I cannot say no. I do not even know where to start.”
03
Everyone else has the manual
You feel like you are somehow the only manager who does not quite know what they are doing. Imposter syndrome has taken up permanent residence and it is exhausting.
“Everyone else seems to find this easy. What is wrong with me?”
04
Lost the thread of what matters
There are moments when you wonder if this role is really for you at all. The meaning that used to drive you has quietly disappeared somewhere along the way.
“I used to love my work. I am not sure I do anymore.”

None of this means you are not cut out for leadership. It means you have been given enormous responsibility without the inner tools to carry it sustainably. That is what The Energised Leader is for.

The programme

Six months.
Twelve sessions.
One real shift.

A structured, evidence-based six-month journey that moves you from self-awareness through energy and resilience, into strengths-based leadership, purpose, and finally a sustainable way of working that does not depend on willpower.

This is not a quick fix. It is a genuine transformation — grounded in research, held in a relationship of deep trust, and designed to last well beyond our final session.

What shifts

By the end of the programme,
you will lead differently.

A clear sense of who you are as a leader
Your signature strengths, your core values, and a management philosophy that is genuinely yours — not borrowed from someone else’s idea of what a good manager looks like.
Energy that is not dependent on circumstance
A recovery rhythm, a positive emotion practice, and a deep understanding of what restores you — so that when difficult periods arrive, you have real resources to draw on.
A role redesigned around your strengths
Through job crafting and strengths-based delegation, you will have reshaped your working day to create more flow, more meaning and less of the grinding effort that comes from working against your grain.
Psychological flexibility under pressure
Using ACT principles, you will stay open, present and values-aligned even when things are hard — rather than reacting from anxiety or fused beliefs about what a manager should be.
Boundaries that feel like integrity
You will be able to say no, set limits and protect your energy — not defensively, but from a clear understanding of what you stand for and what your role genuinely requires.
A plan for sustained flourishing
A personal flourishing architecture — practices, rhythms and commitments — that keeps your wellbeing and performance working together long after our final session.
The evidence base

Built on science.
Not intuition alone.

Every tool and coaching question in The Energised Leader has a peer-reviewed evidence base. Participants complete validated assessments at the start, midpoint and close — giving you measurable evidence of progress, not just a feeling that things have improved.

PERMA Model
Seligman’s validated wellbeing framework — Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment — provides the backbone of the programme and the primary measure of progress.
VIA Character Strengths
Peterson & Seligman’s classification of 24 universal human strengths gives you a precise, evidence-based language for what you do naturally well — and how to use it more deliberately.
Self-Determination Theory
Deci & Ryan’s research explains why early managers become depleted — and prescribes exactly what needs to change for genuine, sustainable engagement to return.
Acceptance & Commitment
ACT’s six core processes — including psychological flexibility, defusion and values-based committed action — equip managers to stay grounded and effective under significant pressure.
Flow Theory
Csikszentmihalyi’s challenge-skill balance research underpins the job crafting and strengths deployment work — creating conditions for optimal performance and deep satisfaction.
Broaden-and-Build
Fredrickson’s research demonstrates that positive emotions actively expand cognitive resources, build resilience and create the upward spiral that makes sustainable high performance possible.
What clients say

“I came into this programme feeling like I was failing at something everyone else seemed to find easy. Six months later I have a management philosophy, a way of working that actually sustains me, and — for the first time — I am genuinely proud of how I lead.”

Your coach

Academic rigour.
Real-world experience.

I know what it feels like to carry serious leadership responsibility under real pressure. I spent over 20 years in senior leadership roles in finance and investment management — at institutions including the Church Commissioners of England, Millennium Global Investments and the Qatar Investment Authority.

That experience is why I became a coach — and why my approach is different to most. I do not just understand the theory of leadership under pressure. I have lived it at the highest levels.

My coaching draws on the most robust frameworks in positive psychology and applies them to the real challenges that early managers face in demanding organisations. Every session is both deeply personal and scientifically grounded.
